Something that I learnt today

Today wasn't very productive at the office.

But I learnt something quite interesting.

Two of our engineers went to a meeting with some people from SingPost; they came feeling pissed off because the guy from the other side was "yaya". I wasn't too sure about the details but the person seemed to be picking on minor things.

Mr Lee, one of the more senior person around, tried to calm things down. Whether he said was really true I wasn't too sure but I felt that it was a good example of motivation.

He started by saying that many in quasi-government organizations like SingPost think that they are superior than others and have bad attitudes. Then he went on to assure them that they would be covered if any complaints are lodged by the fellow.

"Customer is King", he said before continuing "only before the tender." "After the tender, the vendor is King." He then rationalized his argument: if a company already invested so much into the project, it would be better off continuing the project rather than restart on an entirely new one. In his opinion, the "yaya" fellow is screwed because if the engineers on our side do not cooperate with him, he will have a hard time answering to his boss.

Makes sense isn't it? The engineers seemed to be quite glad that they are actually having the "upper hand" over the arrogant guy. Although short, Mr Lee's speech lifted the colleagues' mood and in a way motivated them in their jobs.

My lesson of the day=).
